I don't think either of those deals would get O'Reilly. Any deal that Ottawa proposes for O'Reilly most likely would have to center around Ceci ++ and I don't think that is something Ottawa would be willing to do. |

It would be fair if the Chiasson experiment is considered over and you're looking to dump Smith's salary.
Chiasson is an RFA and if the Sens have no interest in resigning him they might as well get the 3rd rd pick now. Otherwise they risk getting a lesser pick if he is signed to an offer sheet or nothing at all if they don't give him a qualifying offer and he becomes a UFA.
Smith has value as a defensive and rugged forward but it is difficult to say if this team is better with him in the lineup. I think he is a leader in the dressing room and brings an edge that is needed on most nights. For 1.8M I think the Sens keep him, but if they want to dump the salary, a 2nd round pick would be quite fair.

You guys think Turris is untouchable?
Just brainstorming here, but he seems to be a good chip to play if Murray really is looking for top line talent.
Turris can slot as a #2 center on most teams and is very cap friendly (for teams who are worried about the cap going forward).
At the end of the day, 3rd liners and prospects are not going to get the type of impact player that Murray is supposedly looking for.
You have to give, to get. |

Turris has one of the best contracts in the league for what he brings. That said, he is not a #1 center and I don't see him becoming one. If they offer him with picks and prospects/roster player, they could possibly land a legit #1 center.

Why does everyone want to trade Turris all of a sudden. |

Why does everyone want to trade Turris all of a sudden. - corbechev
Because we already went through Methot, Anderson, Phillips, Greening, Condra.
He's next on the hit list.
An he's been playing as soft as a figure skater out there and when people underperforme we talk about trading them |

Neil and Phillips back in the lineup is good news for the "Drive for Five".
That is my handle for the potential return that would come if the Senators could secure a top five draft slot in this year's fantastic draft.
NHL Central Scouting released their mid-year rankings today. Here are the top five North American prospects (this doesn't even include the top Europeans):
Connor McDavid
Jack Eichel
Noah Hanifan
Lawson Crouse
Dylan Strome
Imagine being able to add one of those guys to the fantastic young core the Senators already have in place. Three of them have the potential to be that #1 centre the team needs for the future. |

Well, if we are trading for the #1 overall pick from Edmonton then we'd be drafting McDavid who would be our #1 C within two seasons. And if you had to keep one of Turris or Zibanejad for the #2 C I'm willing to bet Zibby is a better player down the road. |

if you make that trade in season, those assets help edmonton a lot, maybe enough to even get out of the top 5 in the draft. if that's the case, sens lose that deal BIG TIME.
if you make that deal in the offseason, would probably cost more than that for mcdavid. |

You would never make a trade like that in-season. You would have to know where Edmonton is picking before even discussing a trade like this. |

agreed.......but the only way edmonton is likely to move that pick is during the season, when they still have the ability to move up.
in the offseason, especially if htey're picking 1st or 2nd, the cost of getting that pick is INSANE. andy, turris, and a 2nd doesn't cut it.
if you want mcdavid, it's probably something like.........zibby, ceci, our 1st, lehner. and yes, i realize that's an insane return, but that's likely what it would cost for mcdavid. |

The only way Edmonton (or Buffalo, Carolina, Arizona etc) would move their first round pick in-season would be if they are getting back what they would want for the first overall pick.
If not, there is 0% chance they would move the pick. It would be idiotic to trade a pick that ends up being first overall for lower value.
None of the above holds true of course if your GM is Mike Milbury. Then anything goes. |

I could see Edmonton moving their pick if they drop below the top two. Marner will probably go #3 and there is no way Edmonton takes another undersized forward with 4 or more stud Dmen near the top of the draft.
Crouse is a baby. Youngest top rated kid in the draft. His stock will continue to climb, I think he goes 4th. So, lots of room for Oilers to trade down and get a top Dman if they are not able to play the McDavid or Eichel card. |

pretty much every "credible expert" has Hannifin going #3.....can't see him dropping any lower. |

So you are going to get a elite talent like crosby for a second line centre, a goalie that will give them 3-5 good years, a borderline nhl defenceman and a second rd pick. I'm not so sure edmonton would do that deal. |

I am not saying Edmonton won't move their pick. In my earlier comment I was saying they wouldn't deal it 'in-season', (or prior to knowing where they are drafting) unless they got the value back that they would want for the #1 overall pick. |
